Ashtanga Yoga Opening Chant

Welcome! You are one step away from learning this beautiful opening mantra! Traditionally, the opening chant is chanted in the beginning of an Ashtanga yoga practice.

This call and response method is a super easy way of learning it. If you listen and chant along with this audio every time at the beginning of your practice (which should be every morning 5-6 days a week by the way :)), I guarantee you will learn it in no time.

In addition, on the bottom I have provided the script as well as the translation at your convenience. So let’s get started and click the play button!

Translation from the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute website:

I bow to the lotus feet of the Gurus,
The awakening happiness of one’s own Self revealed, Beyond better, acting like the jungle physician, Pacifying delusion, the poison of Samsara.
Taking the form of a man to the shoulders,
Holding a conch, a discus, and a sword.

Thank you for visiting. Namaste.
